Elche Town Hall claims that the regional government has kept money sent from MadridElche Town Hall is to ask the Government to manage the money sent to help fight the red palm weevil which is threatening the many palm trees for which Elche is famous.
Maintenance Councillor José Manuel Sánchez said that the regional Generalitat government is the biggest threat to the trees, accusing them of keeping 9.6 million € which had been paid by the Ministry for Agriculture in 2004, ‘and had been lost on the way’.
He said the Mayor would be asking for a meeting with the Ministry to tell them what has happened.
