The A400M military plane which is being assembled by Airbus at their factory in Sevilla, will make its maiden flight on Thursday.
The three hour flight will be over a 200-300 kilometre radius of Sevilla, according to the Head of Test Flights at Airbus, Fernando Alonso. He said that several small matters had been found during the last few weeks testing on the ground, but this was normal in this type of program.
There will be a crew of six on board, two pilots and four engineers. The pilots will be the Briton, Edward Strongman, and the Spaniard, Ignacio Lombo, both experienced test pilots. Among the engineers on board will be the Chief of the A400M project, Eric Isorce.
There is a three year delay already in the A400M project, which includes the participation of seven countries including Spain, because of both financial and technological difficulties.
The A400M will have double the capacity of the Hercules 130, and is far quicker than its predecessor.
Sevilla is proud of the Airbus factory, and the City Hall will be placing five or six large screens across the city so that locals can witness the event.
