The belén created in the shark tank every year is a tradition which began in 1995Staff at Madrid zoo took to the water this Saturday to continue a tradition which began in 1995 of creating an underwater nativity scene in one of the zoo’s aquariums. The figures for the belén are placed in the tank which is home to the zoo’s 12 sharks, and the task is seen as a rite of passage for the new divers who are taken on to the team.
It took the team of two some 40 minutes to place this year’s nine figures and the stars which surround them, before they could leave the tank after safely completing a job well done.
