In Madrid the night time lows will be down to -6ºC and it will not rise above zero today.
33 provinces are on orange alert today for low temperatures and 24 are also on the same warning level on Sunday.
The worst of the weather will be in the north, centre and eastern half of the country on Saturday night, but temperatures will remain exceptionally low on Sunday.
Soria will see temperatures of -2º to -10º, León from -4º to -12º and Burgos -3º to -13º, according to the Spanish Meteorological Agency AEMET. Valencia will reach -1º and Sevilla -4º.
Temperatures will improve on Sunday night when a new front will move in from the Atlantic bringing milder air, but also some fresh show fall in some areas.
The outlook for next week remains unsettled as several fronts are expected to cover the country bringing ‘abundant precipitation’, falling as now on high ground.
