One dead, another missing, after drugs boat goes down off Cádiz coast

One man has been found dead and another is feared drowned after a small boat, believed to have been carrying drugs, went down off the coast of Chipiona on Monday night. El Mundo reports that 13 packages of cannabis, with an estimated weight of 300 kilos, were later found close to shore near the spot where the boat capsized.

A survivor, a Moroccan man, was picked up at around 2am, along with the body of a second passenger, who was also from Morocco. The search was continuing for the missing man.

Two tankers were meanwhile in trouble this Tuesday morning in the bad weather affecting the Strait of Gibraltar. Both were forced from their normal anchorage near Gibraltar, one running aground at La Línea. It’s understood the tanker was sailing empty of cargo at the time. Two tugs were sent out to assist the second ship.

EFE reports that both tankers sail under the flag of Malta and will each face a fine of 200,000 €.
