There have been a number of cases reported lately in Spain of people who have decided to raffle off their homes after being unable to pay their mortgage in these times of recession, but the latest in Granada province is slightly different as the prize, on this occasion, is a supermarket.
Ideal newspaper reports that Amaya Alonso decided to put up her Almuñécar business for sale more than a year ago, planning to use the money to pay off her mortgage. She advertised it with 50 real estate agents, but as she told the paper, ‘Not even one of them has phoned me’. Her mortgage payments are reported as 3,000 € every month, and she has now taken the desperate step of raffling off the business, which is just 100 metres from the Fuente de Piedra beach in Almuñécar. There are 6,000 tickets on sale at 100 € for the draw which is due to take place on 7th July.
