The Spanish Communist Party has started to collect signatures on a petition which demands transparency in the accounts of the Spanish Royal Family.
The campaign has the slogan ‘On what are you spending my money?’ and got underway on Tuesday with signatures being collected in the central Puerta del Sol in Madrid.
Once complete, after some three months, the petition will be given to the IU Deputy in Congress, Gaspar Llamazares, who will present the petition for debate.
A press release from the PCE says the Royal Family received a 2.7% increase in budget last year compared to 2008. This year the official state budgets say spending has been frozen for the first time ever.
The PCE says that nobody knows how the money is spent, how much and on what. They say the money should come under public control and be transparent.
