Benidorm in August - EFE
Tourism bosses in the province of Alicante are forecasting a 3% recovery in the British market this year. Businessmen and administration both agree that this summer will be better than last as far as British tourist numbers are concerned in the province, reaching the same conclusion after the FITUR international tourism fair held in Madrid last week.
Over the past two years tourist numbers have fallen by between 15 and 20%.
President of HOSBEC, the Hostelry Business Association in Benidorm and the Costa Blanca, Antonio Mayor, said the forecast improvement comes following data obtained from many sources over the past eight or nine months reflecting a growth in the confidence of the British tourist. He said surveys showed that about 50% of the eight million Britons who stayed at home last year, have said they will be travelling abroad again this year.
Mayor also noted this year would see the annual ITT, Institute of Travel and Tourism congress in Benidorm in June, as well as three stages of the Vuelta de España cycle race in September, and the second edition of the ‘Best of Gastronomy’ congress in November.
