A search is underway for two ETA terrorists after an abandoned safe house has been found in Portugal where the Basque terrorists were keeping 1.5 tons of explosives.

The house is in Óbidos, a tourist town to the north of Lisbon, and the discovery was made after a woman complained to the police that those renting the property had disappeared without paying.

Portuguese police have found what is being described as abundant explosive material.

It comes just weeks after a van was intercepted near the border in Zamora loaded with explosives and heading towards Portugal.
