The Monarch was welcomed by the Lebanese President and will go on to see the Spanish troops stationed in the countryKing Juan Carlos is in the Lebanon on his first official visit to the country, and where he met on Monday night with President Michel Suleiman. He was welcomed at Beirut Airport by the President, accompanied by his Foreign and Defence Minister, as well as the Commander in Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces.
On Tuesday the Spanish monarch goes on to visit the Spanish troops based at the ‘Miguel de Cervantes’ base at Marjayún under the command of General Alberto Asarta. He will be joined on his trip tomorrow by the Spanish Minister for Defence, Carme Chacón, while the Spanish Foreign Minister, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, will stay in Beirut for meetings with the Lebanese authorities and for a mass in honour of Saint John Maron, the patron saint of the country.
