48 year old Lita Broadhurst, a British woman who was living and working as an English teacher in Garrucha, Almería, had spent 12 hours with ‘an iron bar in one hand and a telephone in the other to call the Guardia Civil, and a bottle by the bed’, but she still threw herself to her death just minutes before the rapid court case for domestic violence was due to start against her ex-partner, named with the initials P.D.K.

It happened on the morning of February 5 when she climbed to the terrace of her home and threatened to throw herself off. Neighbours called the local police but she carried out her threat. Police say they could not gain access to the terrace to stop her.

Emergency workers tried without success to revive her for some 20 minutes. Later that morning she was due to declare in court against her ex partner who was being held on remand ahead of the hearing.

She had told friends on Facebook that the lived a life of terror because of her ex-partner. Her last post was entitled ‘Last Words’ where she explained her terror and said goodbye to her two adolescent sons.
