There are eight finalists from 32 candidates

Apples new iPad is among the eight finalists for the 2010 Fiasco Awards. The jury announced the selection of the final eight from the 32 candidates nominated in Barcelona for this, the second year of the Fiasco Awards.

The jury said the iPad is nominated as it could ‘go the same was as Obama with the Nobel Prize and win the award before it does anything’. The jury says the only innovation with respect to the iPhone and iTouch is that the iPad is bigger and can’t make phone calls. They note its lack of flash, camera, USB port, SIM card dock and general no standard connections. and that you can’t browse the net and listen to music at the same time.

Also in the final is the Xing social network as ‘it does not understand its users’, Google Wave for being slow and difficult to use, Toshiba HD-DVD for losing the battle against Blu-ray, and the DRM Digital Rights Management system as it limits access to digital content.

Also in the final, mobile phone video calls as nobody makes them, and interactive television as ‘the standards have taken so long to develop’ they have missed the train. The last finalist is the PSP Go! from Sony, which, despite a great design has less than exciting features.

Voting continues at www.fiascoawards.com until March 10 and on the 11th the prizes will be awarded at the Sala Tiffany’s in Barcelona.
