Hoteliers near the port have complained about the noise from the botellónFive patrols from the State Security force of the National Police intervened in the botellón street drinking party on the quayside of Alicante port on Saturday.
It follows a lack of action from the local police despite requests from businesses affected by the noise and mess generated each weekend. Hoteliers in the nearby Playa del Postiguet have led the protests at the parties which have been seen for weeks on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The police moved in just after 2am on Sunday morning, with many of those gathered there asking why the police had come now and not before. There were no problems however, and the entire area was cleared in fifteen minutes.
What happens next weekend remains to be seen however.
