Ryanair departing Granada Airportlarger |

It comes as most British tourists will be kept out of the new Terminal Three in MálagaA difference of opinion between the Granada Provincial Government, controlled by the Socialists, and Granada City Hall, controlled by the PP, is being blamed for the departure of Ryanair services from Granada-Jaén, Federico García Lorca airport.
The argument was over the subsidy being paid to the airline and the airline says it will leave unless the 1.3 million € agreed in 2005 is paid, with the airline speaking of the ‘excessive costs’ at the airport. For now, four of the six flight destinations operated by the airline from Granada are cancelled – those are the services to London, Liverpool, Girona and Madrid.
Problems started in 2007 when the City Hall said it would not longer be paying its 15% of the payment, which was also being met by the local hoteliers federation, Chamber of Commerce, local savings banks and the company which runs the Sierra Nevada ski resort.
The company says that 28 weekly flights will be lost, along with 400 jobs and the 400,000 passengers carried through Granada by the airline will have to travel from elsewhere.
One traveller contacted Typically Spanish to say that people who have booked tickets for after May have not been informed by Ryanair that the service is ending.
Meanwhile down the road in Málaga British travellers eager to use the new Terminal Three which opens at the airport on March 16 may well be disappointed.
It follows the decision to keep most of the low-cost airlines in the current Terminal Two building.
Check in at Málaga will be as follows:-
Terminal One
