Two of eleven homes in the La Higuera Urbanisation in Manilva which have been serious affected by land subsidence following the recent rains are in danger of collapsing ‘at any moment’, and taking the rest of the houses with them in a domino effect.

The head of Civil Protection in Manilva, Aurelio Gonzáez, told Diario Sur that the houses had moved ten centimetres in a few hours, and that he feared no solution can be found for the 11 homes.

In the Monteviñas Urbanisation where 12 houses were evacuated, the land has moved by 15-20cms, and continues to move.

In Estepona technicians continue to evaluate the damage to homes in the Forest Hills urbanisation where 11 families were evacuated.

Three families have been evacuated from their homes in la Cala del Moral, near Rincón de la Victoria, as a landslide threatens their homes.

Most of the people evacuated in these cases are foreigners, many of whom say they have nowhere to go. Some have commented that they fear that their homes may be burgled in their absence, demanding greater security.

Meanwhile in Órgiva in Granada, the local council has called on the hippy commune at El Beneficio to leave, because of the danger of the collapse of a nearby hill.
