Spanish singer, Miguel Bosé, when asked about the political situation in Cuba said that there is repression in all countries to a greater or lesser extent, and to prove his point made reference to the photographic exhibition on the 2009 news in Valencia where ten photos of people implicated in the Gürtel corruption case have been removed.
The Director of the MnVIM museum where the exhibition was held, Román de la Calle, resigned this week in protest at the interference which he said came ‘from the top’. His decision to resign was supported by some 500 people who gathered at the doors of the museum on Tuesday, calling for ‘Culture without censorship’.
Now the Deputy President of the Valencia Government, Vicente Rambla, has demanded that Miguel Bosé rectify his statements saying that they were an insult to all Valencians. Rambla said that comparing the Castro regime in Cuba with a democratic state such as Spain is to support Castro and his dictatorship.
‘In our democracy individual rights are guaranteed’, he said, ‘something which does not happen in Cuba’.
Bosé, it seems has no intention of apologising for his statement.
