Penal Court 8 in Málaga has found the ex Mayor of Cártama, Leonor García Agua, from the Partido Popular, not guilty of town planning crimes. She had been charged by the Málaga prosecutors’ office in connection with the granting of two licences to build on land classified as non-buildable, and without following the legal requirements.

The judge said she had nothing to do with the drawing up of the decrees which granted the licences, but had only signed a paper which had differing contents from the normal. That he said was key to finding her not guilty as there had been ‘no knowledge or intent’ in granting said licences. The judge noted that the case was presented five years ago by a differing governing team, but noted too that if the case had been better investigated it may not have come to court.

The prosecutor had asked for a two year prison sentence and a 16 year ban from public office for the ex Mayor claiming she was fully aware of her injustice, something which Leonor García-Agua denied.
