More than 100 people are suffering from intoxication from incorrectly adjusted gas heaters as some homes in the area are into their fourth day without power.
One person, a 41 year old woman from Ultramort, Baix Empordà, has died from CO poisoning, and 105 people have been treated in health centres and hospitals in the region. Three have been kept in for observation in the Palamós Hospital. Many of the problems have resulted from poorly ventilated domestic generators as people tried to keep warm.
Cataluña remains on an emergency level 1 with the forecast of even more snow, and below freezing temperatures have returned to many areas inland, in the Pyrenees and on the Baleares.
