ABC today
El País has a large photo and says that the grandness of simplicity has died. It says the world of literature has toasted its last goodbye to the author of ‘Los Santos Innocentes’, describing him as a writer and hunter of stories.
El Mundo describes him as the humble talent who made Castellano grander, noting he died at the age of 89.
ABC has a large front page photo and says that Delibes, free conscience, has died.
La Razón dedicates its entire front page and much of the paper to the writer, describing him as one of the greats of Spanish literature. Ten writers tell the paper their favourite of his books.
Público has a montage on its front page with a book written by him ‘Fin del camino’ – end of the road.
El País claims to have seen a document from Al Qaeda in the Maghreb which is still holding two Spanish aid workers.
The paper has a quote ‘We are giving correct treatments to the two kidnapped aid workers’. The paper notes that Al Qaeda has placed Spain on its target list because ‘it tool part with NATO allies against us in Afghanistan and Iraq (until 2004), and because it governs Al Andalus, which is Muslim land.
ABC notes that an indiscretion from the Deputy Prime Minister has upset the investigators into the kidnapping. They blame de la Vega of revealing details which will complicate the release of the remaining two Spanish captives.
El Mundo headlines that France has admitted its failure in not discovering the death of the ETA terrorist Anza. His body has now been identified after ten months in the morgue in Toulouse. Investigations have been opened.
El Mundo looks at the size of the Spanish debt and has calculated that the State owes every Spaniard 12,000 € aleady.
Público notes that 23.5% of all debt in Town Halls comes from Madrid and that it shot up with the arrival of Gallardón as Mayor. He paper says his council owes almost as much as the other 49 provincial capitals together, and notes too that the regional government debt rose by 26% last year.
El País notes that Griñán has called for reform during his election as new leader of the PSOE Socialists in Andalucía. He promised ‘change and reform’ in order to continue with the support of the Andalucian people after nearly 30 years of government.
El Mundo has a front page photo of Felipe González greeting Manuel Chaves at the PSOE conference in Sevilla. The paper says González called on his ‘countrymen’ to support Griñán.
El Mundo notes that the Defendor of the Minor in Madrid has said he spied on his own children on the social networking site Tuenti. He described it as a form of parental protection in a virtual world.
ABC says that the over 60’s have been taking over the cosmetic surgery clinics, with numbers double over the past five years. Liftings and breast implants the most popular.
And finally,
El Mundo reports that singer Miguel Bosé has lost 30 kilos to be ‘guapo’, and also that Lady Gaga says she is celibate.
