An original project was abandoned in 2000Terry Gilliam is to restart filming of his version of ‘Don Quixote’ in September. The original shoot of ‘The man who killed Don Quixote’ was beset with problems and abandoned in 2000. It suffered from budgetary problems and the actor playing Don Quixote, Jean Rochefort, suffered a hernia which stopped him getting on a horse.
Now the project has been revived and filming is planned this autumn in Segovia, Valencia and Toledo, with the film expected to be released next year.
The ex member of Monty Python met with the Madrid producers, Kanzaman, and members of the Segovia Film Office on Friday to make plans. A documentary ‘Lost in La Mancha’ will also show the problems that Gilliam has had in making the film.
