The ex auditor at El Ejido Town Hall, José Alemán, the man considered to be the brains behind the corruption uncovered in the town, has admitted that he was being paid as much as 490,000 € a month by the Ayuntamiento.

The information is revealed in the case summary to which El País has had access, and which shows Alemán had been living the most luxurious of lifestyles, with an American Express Centurion Card with a million € credit limit, of which only 300 have been issued in Spain. In his safe, a collection of watches valued at more than three million € was found, allegedly purchased with money diverted from El Ejido Town Hall.

The summary shows how he paid large amounts of money for tickets for the Roland Garros final, and developed a taste for Michelin star restaurants, with his wife, brother and sister in law.

Alemán is now in prison on remand, but his wife, Isabel Carrasco, was granted 90,000 € bail by the Instruction judge, Montserrat Peña.

Also facing charges in the case is the Mayor, Juan Encisco, from the PAL group, and some 18 others who face bribery, perversion of the course of justice, and money laundering allegations among others.
