The ex President of the UM party is implicated in corruption on the Baleares

The judge has granted 350,000 € bail against the ex leader of the Unió Mallroquina party, María Antonia Munar. The amount is 100,000 € less than that demanded by the prosecutors in the case.

Munar has been given until 2pm Friday to find the money, and has also had to hand in her passport and is prohibited from leaving Spain.

She is implicated in the ‘Maquillaje’ case which is being investigated by judge Ignacio Lope Sola, and faces charges of misuse of public funds, falsification of documents, perversion of the course of justice, electoral crime, prohibited negotiations and bribery. In a three and a half hour long appearance before the judge on Wednesday she denied the allegations against her, and media reports say her statements were firm and clear.

Meanwhile, after a prolonged court hearing on Wednesday, the eight people arrested on corruption allegations in Vitoria were granted their freedom without bail, but charges of bribery, influence peddling and money laundering still stand.

The regional Basque police, La Ertzaintza, has earlier raided the offices of the Álava Diputación and Alfonso Arriola, advisor to the Basque Accounting Court is among those detained.
