The underground water table in Málaga once again contains more water than the largest reservoir in the province at La Viñuela.
The Junta de Andalucía says there are more than 150 cubic hectometres held underground after the recent rains, some 90% of the capacity, according to data from the Junta delegate for the environment, Remedios Martel. She said the Junta was organising some special events to mark Monday which is World Water Day.
The Sierra de las Nieves underground water table is one to have recovered the most, feeding into the Genal, Verde, Turón, Guadalhorce and Guadalevín rivers.
30% of the water which comes out of our taps in Málaga province comes from underground resources, 40% comes from dams, 20% from rivers and the remaining 10% is supplied by the desalination plants.
