There was upset in the Rescate brotherhood which should have taken to the streets of Málaga in procession on Tuesday night, when the palio broke under the weight of the Virgen de Gracia.

The supporting beams where the bearers take the weight broke making carrying the image impossible, and the Virgin had to be returned to the chapel without the float.

Meanwhile Málaga actor, Antonio Banderas, always a key figure in the Holy Week of the city, has presented his new foundation, Fundación Fusionadas, which, through his brotherhood, will finance scholarships for local students to attend United States universities, and which will also support the Cancer Care Hospice Cudeca.

The actor’s initiative was welcomed by the city’s Mayor, Francisco de la Calle who said it would be ‘added value’ for the city.

Banderas said that everyone has a certain obligation to give something back to the community, and that we should make the most of Holy Week because that is when there is most people. He said the donation to Cudeca was ‘symbolic’ as what Cudeca really needs is more supporters.

Baroness Thyssen is also a member of Banderas’ new foundation, but could not be at the event to launch it on Tuesday, although she sent a letter of good wishes and commitment.
