A patera small boat, carrying mostly Sub-Saharan immigrants, was intercepted by the Spanish coastguard in the early hours of Sunday, 20 miles off the coast of Motril, and 39 travellers rescued.

There were 13 women on board, five of them pregnant.
The pregnant women have been taken to the district hospital in Motril.

Most of the travellers were from Sierra Leone, Guinea Conakry but also from Bangladesh.

After detection by the SIVE high tech system, the immigrants were finally escorted into Motril at 0430am.
