The priest from the parish of San Pedro in Antequera, Málaga, has been charged with the theft of 17 stained glass windows from the church, catalogued as assets of cultural interest in the municipality. The director of the Municipal Heritage Centre is also implicated in the theft according to EFE news agency.
It comes after the Guardia Civil found the windows for sale on Saturday in a local arts and antiques store. The owner of the store is also helping the Guardia with enquiries, as is another fourth person thought to have actually removed the windows from their place.
Reports indicate however that the windows were not valuable dating only from the last century.
