Ex members say the Vadika Pratisthana Sangha is a cult

The prosecutor is to investigate a Granada based Hindu community after a complaint has been placed against the Vadika Pratisthana Sangha community.

El País reports that supposed victims of the group have alleged that they were manipulated and exploited for work and also sexually. The women who have left the group claim that they were allowed to sleep only between three and five hours, and had working days as long as 18 hours, with no contract, poor food and without any contact with their family or society. Now the prosecutor is investigating whether any crime has taken place.

The problems first came to light when an ex member and leader of the group, Antonio Javier Plaza, claimed he was being persecuted by the vice president of the community, Tara Shakti Chaltanya.

The Granada Ombudsman, Melchor Sáiz-Pardo, has now passed on information to the prosecutor from a family who want to ‘recover’ their daughter, who has said she is acting of her own free will.
The community has been in Granada for almost 30 years, but its ex members are now spread across the country offering Yoga and other disciplines to attract new members.

The RedUNE which acts against manipulation of people in sects in Spain considers the Granada group and example of a ‘destructive sect’.
