Another immigration tragedy on Spain’s coasts when a small
patera boat carrying 38 paperless immigrants was escorted into Motril port on Saturday. There were five bodies on board the boat, two of them babies. Two other children are reported to be in a very serious condition, one was taken to hospital in Motril, another was airlifted by helicopter to Almería.
The boat was first spotted when 43 miles to the South of Motril by a patrolling coastguard plane. On arriving at the scene they found the boat practically under the water. All the occupants were Sub-Saharan with the exception of one, who was Moroccan.
Earlier on Saturday another boat carrying 36 immigrants was spotted off the coast of Adra in Almería. On that occasion all the travellers were in good health.
