The Málaga Provincial Court says the start date of September 27 can be kept for the Malaya corruption case, given that the main accused, the ex Municipal Real Estate Assessor from Marbella Ayuntamiento, Juan Antonio Roca, has managed to replace his lawyer after José Aníbal Álvarez walked out following prolonged lack of payment.
Rocío Amigo is already representing Roca in several of the cases where he has property embargoed, and she has also defended the ex Mayor, Julián Muñoz on other town planning charges.
It comes as the Málaga Court, presided by Judge José Godino, has decided to sell off all the assets belonging to Juan Antonio Roca which have been impounded as a result of the Malaya case. The funds raised will be used to pay the debts of his companies with Hacienda which are some eight million €.
The decision to sell items now has been taken considering that any further delay could result in a deterioration of the property, with a consequent loss of value. Reports indicate that Juan Antonio Roca is in agreement with the decision.
The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor estimates that Roca has amassed a personal fortune of 200 million € during his time in Marbella Town Hall.
This coming Wednesday will see the sale of a dozen or so vehicles, including a gulf wing Mercedes, and there are reports of an offer already in place for Roca’s helicopter.
The magistrates in Málaga also indicated that they are now prepared to release some provisions of funds from those accused who have their accounts embargoed so that lawyers can be paid, and a formal resolution to that effect is expected in a few days, according to
