Guti struggled to hold back the tears as he said ‘You have to give way to the youngsters, whatever your name is’, saying goodbye on Sunday to the club which he said has been his life for 24 years, 14 of which have been in the main team.
The midfielder, José María Gutiñerrez, is expected to head for Turkey to play for Besika on a two year contract worth 2.5 million €. He said he was starting a new stage in his life, but he would always have Real in his heart, and did not rule out a return in the future.
Meanwhile the Real Madrid captain for many years, Raúl González, will be saying his goodbyes on Monday. A ceremony at 1pm in the Palco de Honor will see him joined by Florentino Pérez and Jorge Valdano, and will be followed by a press conference.
Raúl has been part of the side since 1994 and leaves at the age of 33.
