Members of the Guardia Civil, fire-fighters Infoca, Civil Protection, local police, Red Cross and other volunteers have been searching the Sierra de Mijas over the weekend, for a 32 year old local man who has vanished when out walking.
Juan Antonio Gómez Alarcón has been missing since last Tuesday when he set off on a hike at 9am in an area he is reported to know well. He often himself acts as a guide for others in the sierras.
He did not take a mobile phone, knowing he would be in many areas where there is no coverage, and was expected back on Wednesday or Thursday.
The authorities were alerted on Friday.
The search is being coordinated by the Guardia Civil barracks at Osunillas in Mijas, and the Guardia Civil has brought in a helicopter to help on Saturday. The numbers of volunteers taking part in the search reached more than 120 on Sunday as the search was extended between Churriana and Ojén. Local caves have also been searched, but without success.
