Mayor of La Linea claims Government wants to ban his march to Algeciras

El Mundo reports that the Government wants to stop the planned march on July 30 from La Linea to central government offices in Algeciras by the Mayor of La Linea, the PP’s Alejandro Sánchez.

Sánchez has made the headlines of late with an idea of charging a toll to get to Gibraltar from Spain, claiming that his municipality has been abandoned by Madrid.

The Mayor claims that the Paso de Estrecho operation, when hundreds of Moroccans travel back home for the summer and the port of Algeciras is very busy is being used as a reason to try and prohibit his march. He claims the only reason for such a ban is to keep La Linea as ‘the last town in Spain’, and that ban or not he intends to start his walk from the border with Gibraltar at 8,30am on Friday.

‘I have the right to defend the rights of my town’, he said.
