Ten swimmers from four countries achieved a new record for crossing the Strait of Gibraltar on Monday.

The ACNEG, Association for Swimming the Strait of Gibraltar, has certified the achievement as each of the ten swimmers made the crossing individually, taking advantage of favourable weather conditions.

Wearing neoprene suits for protection from the cold temperatures, the swimmers set off from Tarifa supported by several boats.
Six of the swimmers including a woman, arrived in an area of the Moroccan coast known as Cruces, while the other four came ashore at the Almansa point.

The ages of the participants ranged from 25 to 48 and they have been named as Spaniards Juan Domínguez, Jorge Estalella, José Antonio Peix, José María López and Jorge Balbas, Australians Brendan Luke and Ky Hurst, with Kevin Michael Owens and Amy Marie Aukstikalnis from the United States and Alan Edward Morelli from Britain.

Each crossing took between 4hours 53 minutes and 5 hours 08 minutes.
