Michelle Obama and her younger daughter Sasha arrived at Málaga Aiport at 1030 on Wednesday at the start of a summer break for the United States First Lady and a group of her friends.
Security was high as the flight touched down and during the transfer of the party to the Hotel Villa Padierna in Benahavís, near Marbella.
Most of the press corps of some 300 has camped out at the entrance to the urbanization which houses the hotel, but the visit is of a strictly private nature and no meetings or press events are planned.
Michelle Obama will be flying to the Marivent Palace on Mallorca at some stage to meet with King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía who are, as usual, spending their summer on the island.
Barack Obama will, according to a statement from the White House, be staying in the United States, as has the couple’s elder daughter, Malia, who is on a summer camp.
