The five star Los Monteros Hotel has reopened in Marbella.
The establishment, which has been closed for 15 months, is now trading free of debts after a judge authorized the sale of the hotel despite objections from Social Security and Hacienda tax authorities.
The hotel was previously owned by the Russian petrol magnate, Ernest Malishev, and is now under bankruptcy protection with the sale authorized by Mercantile Court 2 in Marbella. Judge Rocío Marina Coll has allowed the company which also runs the Guadalmedina Hotel in Marbella, to take over via two new companies, New Monteros and Monterotel, created for the purpose, considering the sale is the best solution for all sides. 85 of the original 171 workers taken on by Malishev in November 2008 remain.
Meanwhile a strike has been called at another top Marbella Hotel, Incosol, where the 165 workers are protesting at being owed three months pay. They are set to stop work between Friday and Sunday.
