The PSOE Socialist party has said that there is collaboration between the Guardia Civil and the Royal Navy in the waters off Gibraltar, after El Mundo newspaper carried a critical piece on the matter in Tuesday’s edition. The paper says that in the latest incident a jet ski was able to escape the pursuing Guardia Civil Zodiac by heading to and hiding on Gibraltar. It says that three patrol ships from Gibraltar blocked the Zodiac in Spanish waters.
Partido Popular national deputy, José Ignacio Landaluce has blamed the Government for what he sees as a lack of support for the Guardia Civil del Mar in operations in the area, considering that the Rock is a haven for criminals wanted by the Spanish judiciary.
PSOE national deputy, Salvador de la Encina, said however that the collaboration between the Guardia Civil and the Royal Navy in Gibraltar was ‘extraordinary’ and that the relations are ‘good, independent of the incidents which had existed historically, but which always have been solved with dialogue, as it could not be otherwise in a democracy’.

Linea say they have intercepted 702 packets of contraband cigarettes which they seized close to the Gibraltar border. The cigarettes were intervened when they saw a person placing black plastic bags into a car.
