Three die as torrential rain hits Córdoba

Three people have been killed by flash floods in Córdoba. Two of the deaths were caused when a four wheel drive vehicle was washed away by a flood, and in a separate incident a man lost his life when a wall collapsed as a result of the downpour.

Another two women were injured by another falling wall, and the Civil Protection organisation say they have received more than 200 calls from Córdoba province as a result of the rain which started to fall on Monday night.

Three people were in the Nissan four wheel drive vehicle when it was hit by the water in Aguilar de la Frontera, with the 31 year old driver managing to escape with only slight injuries. He raised the alarm and a search was mounted for the vehicle which was found shortly later with the body of a 29 year old man inside. The body of the third occupant, a 56 year old woman was found at 0820 on Tuesday morning some 150 metres downstream from the vehicle. The dead were aunt and nephew.

A 36 year old man died in Bujalance when a wall collapsed on him in Calle Morente in the village. He was out in the rain trying to rescue two of his son’s ducks at the time of the tragedy.
