Despite suffering a 3-1 defeat in the first round against Sevilla in the Supercup, Barcelona on Saturday night managed a 4-0 victory in the return leg in the Camp Nou to take their ninth Supercopa win.
Lionel Messi scored a hatrick and the other goal was an own goal from Konko. Messi had his goal scoring instinct back in place after his performance for Argentina had been questioned during the World Cup.
The game also saw the Barcelona debut of Spanish World Cup star David Villa who was purchased from Valencia at the end of last season.
It’s the first title for Barça since Rosell has taken over the Chairmanship of the club.
Meanwhile Liverpool has rejected an offer of 20 million € from Barça for Mascherano. The English club say they want 26 million € to sell the Argentinean this year.
