The National Court Judge, Ismael Moreno, has ordered prison without bail for the Moroccan man, Faical Errai, who was arrested on Friday last week in Poble Nou in Benitatxell by Alicante Civil Guard.

He is accused of acting as a recruiting agent for an Islamic terrorist organisation, carrying out his work over the internet using the website www.ansaraljihad.net. A forum on the page carried extremist viewpoints, propaganda from different terrorist groups, and had a private area for communication. It became one of the ten most influential and busiest such sites online.

The judge heard that Errai connected to the net using another person’s ADSL line fraudulently, and acted as a link between organisations to raise funds and open transit routes for volunteers, starting in 2008.

He is believed to have helped in the sending of Islamic extremist volunteers to Chechnya and Afghanistan, with the judge saying he considered Errai to hold an important position in the Red Ansar Al Muyahadin organisation.

Two local properties and a rural finca were searched after the arrest on Friday and computers and storage devices taken away for inspection.

The operation has seen the Guardia Civil collaborate with police in Belgium, the United States, France, Jordan and Morocco.
