A British tourist who was beaten up on Lanzarote has had to be evacuated to Gran Canaria by helicopter.
Newspaper La Provincia reports that the Briton, aged about 35, and who has not been named, was beaten up at 3,30am on Sunday on the Avenida de Papagayo in Playa Blanca, Yaiza, by one or several people, and has serious face and head injuries.
He was initially taken by ambulance to the local hospital in Arrecife, but as he condition worsened the decision was taken to evacuate him by helicopter to the Doctor Negrin Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
An Italian witness says that he was beaten up in the centre of the town by the church and that several people fled from the scene in a white vehicle, leaving the victim on the ground.
