The Andalucía Parliamentary ‘Mesa’ has decided to admit a proposal for consideration on the banning of bullfighting in the region.
The initiative was presented to the Parliament on June 4th by the Investigative Commission for Animal Mistreatment, CIMA, who are demanding changes in the regional laws on the protection of animals and the banning of the bullfight.
Now it is accepted for admission by the Parliament, the Junta Electoral will be informed, and then the promoters of the initiative will have four months to present the required 75,000 signatures needed. In addition a parliamentary group needs to support the initiative to force a debate.
The President of the Junta de Andalucía, José Antonio Griñán, has already spoken out against such a ban, but has said that he would support a sincere debate on the subject.
It follows the decision of the Catalan Parliament to ban the ‘National Fiesta’ in Cataluña from 2012.
