He was provisionally released by the Instruction Court 2 in Ontinyent after questioning by the National Police. The court did not have a technical report on the causes of the fire and thus could not take any further action at this stage. The man has been ordered to present himself weekly to the court.

Government Sub-Delegate for the Valencia Region, Luis Felipe Martínez, offered a press conference in Ontinyent Town Hall to give the latest information on the fires. He noted that it had been started deliberately and work was continuing to establish the person or persons responsible.

These fires were broought under control on Wednesday, and forces were transferred to fight the fire in Barxeta and its northern front in particular, stopping it crossing the CV-500 road. 900 people continued working in the area.

A statement from the Valencia Government at nightfall considered that all the fires in the south of Valencia Province and the North of Alicante were now under control. They said that 4,500 hectares of land had been affected.
