The 30 year old Sevilla man, who has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 49 year old United States woman, named as Laura, has now told the judge that he did not do it.
The body of the victim was found cut up and placed in a suitcase and bag which had been thrown into the Guadalquivir River, and was found over Monday and Tuesday this week.
Antonio G.S. appeared before the judge for half an hour on Thursday and said that he had met with the woman on the night of August 30 and that they had had an argument, although he could not remember what the argument was about. Then she had cut her own neck and self harmed herself on other parts of her body.
He said that he was frightened by what had happened and decided to get rid of the body by throwing it in the river. He said the knife the woman had used was the same one he used to remove the head and an arm from the body, and then he had thrown it into a rubbish container.
Laura was an English teacher in the town, originally from New York but with ties to Florida, and was separated from her Spanish husband. She leaves a son with whom she lived in Sevilla.
Forensic police say they consider that the 30 year old Spaniard killed the woman in his home, and that they have now recovered all the parts of the body.
