It will take some three days for fire fighters to completely dampen down the fire which was destroyed some 1,000 hectares in the Molino, Losares, Albalda and Palera Sierras in Murcia. One front of the fire remains out of control and the poniente winds yesterday saw small fires restart in the Palera area.
Some 175 firefighters have been working during the day, and about 70 overnight.
The emergency coordination centre said that although one front was still burning it was stable, and only a radical change in the wind direction would cause any new threat.
Mayor of Calsparra, Jesús Navarro, has described the firefighters as ‘heroes’.
Meanwhile in the south of Valencia, the fires at Barxeta, and Rafelguaraf are now under control, but the fire at Ontinyent has seen some fresh activity.
