The mother put on 22 kilos during pregnancy, in a birth described by doctors as exceptional

A baby weighing seven kilos has been born in the La Paz maternity hospital in Madrid, making it the largest baby in the 40 year history of the hospital. Arancha weighed 7 kilos 10 grams at birth to Rocío a Columbian immigrant and was 56.5 cms long.

The birth took place on Feb 13th but details have only just been released.

The hospital say the mother put on 22 kilos during the pregnancy. Doctors at the centre have described the birth, a caesarean section as exceptional. The mother’s first baby was born at 5 kilos so doctors say there is a genetic factor at play.
