The new law which controls new golf courses in Andalucía has now been in operation in the region for three years, and over that time not a single new golf development has been authorised.
The so-called ‘Golf courses of tourist interest’ mix new sporting facilities with new residential developments.
The Junta has however received 19 applications for projects, with most coming from Almería and Cádiz provinces.
The latest application has now been frozen, given that it came on December 17 last year from the Libyan Arab Foreign Bank, to develop the La Resinera Finca in Benahavis with a course and 1,200 homes.
El País reports that the two projects closest to gaining approval, Jimena Golf Resort and El Següesal Golf Resort in Barbate, booth from the same developer, Bogaris, still have to solve questions over the water supply.
