They got into difficulties while climbing up to the Castillo de Santa Bárbara in Alicante city

Firemen have had to rescue three mountain climbers from the western face of Monte Benacantil. They had managed to climb up to four metres, when they got into difficulties and found they were unable to go any further.

The climbers contacted the police by mobile phone, who passed the information onto the fire brigade, who brought them all down safe and sound.

The Castillo de Santa Bárbara, near the old part of the city centre, is built on top of Monte Benacantil.
