The 16 air traffic controllers who have been charged following the air chaos seen last December because of wildcat strike action, have started to declare in Instruction Court 3 in Madrid. The action led to the closure of Spanish airspace for a time, which caused travel chaos over the Inmaculada bank holiday weekend.
They are people called to give evidence in groups of four, and the hearings are expected to continue until Thursday. The President of the USCA air traffic controllers union, Camilo Cela, will declare tomorrow, Tuesday.
Other controllers have been called to declare between September 12 and 20.
The action has been brought by the consumers union OCU, and the Catalan Travel Agency Association, ACAV, among others. They are demanding 10,000 € compensation from AENA for the disruption suffered.
