A good start to the holiday season is threatened by the strike which is over pay and conditions

Workers in the hotel and restaurant sector are threatening strike action over Easter in demand of a 1% over inflation pay increase and an improvement in conditions described as the employers as not being viable.

Forecasts are for hotels on the Costa del Sol to be full over Easter, but a good start to the season is under threat by the strike call. 35,000 workers are affected by the wage round talks.

The Costa del Sol Tourist Board expects half a million more to visit the area this year – making a 5.5% increase over last at 9.5 million. Figures show that last year’s numbers resulted in a year round average of 55% capacity in the hotels.
