'El Cuco' refuses to pay costs for search for Marta Castillo

The refusal comes despite him being found guilty of helping to dispose of the body

The underage youngster known as ‘El Cuco’, Francisco Javier García Marín, has appealed against the sentence from the Sevilla Provincial Court which has ordered him to pay 414,000 € towards the costs of searching for the body of Marta del Castillo in the Guadalquivir river.

El Cuco’s lawyers say they will not pay up for the costs of the search, which proved unsuccessful, as it did not depend on the youngster who was found guilty of taking part in Marta’s disappearance and who was sentenced to two years and 11 months internment.

However the guilty sentence against El Cuco considered that he ‘helped to get rid of the body to stop its discovery’.
The decision on whether the appeal against paying for the search costs proceeds now lies with the Supreme Court.
